Acadiennes celebrates the Acadian and Cajun women born between 1925 and 1945, the so-called “Silent Generation.” The women who came to adulthood during this period worked hard and lived without ostentation in a way, “being seen but not heard,” as the old saying goes. They were born just before or immediately following the Great Depression and were also part of one of the last generations to have the Catholic religion interfere with their personal lives, depriving many of them of the freedom to express themselves.
